There’s so much music being used on TV so because of that there’s so much opportunity to make lots of money from licensing your music for television shows. All the music you hear on television is licensed music. Every little background track is licensed music. There might be a track on a show that’s only used for 5 – 10 seconds and that music is licensed. Sometimes some shows even use music for less than 5 seconds and because of this all of your recordings can generate money for you.

Sometimes the production needs a very short little snippet of a couple of instruments to make an easy transition flow from one scene to another so they might drop in a track that has a couple of instruments playing in it. A quick and easy recording with a couple of instruments in it. That kind of track will give the show the oomph it needs and to make it flow from one scene to another better and make it a more watchable show.

If you are just getting started in writing or recording music and if you want to have your music licensed into television shows then it’s time to start watching a lot of TV shows. I mean a lot of shows. Watch the shows like you’ve never watched them. Study them. Listen to them. Study the music being used on the shows and you’ll learn what exactly it is they are using in the shows. This will make you well informed as to what’s being used on shows, the quality, the styles, moods, themes all of the key ingredients that go into creating licensable songs/tracks. If your tracks are licensable then you’ll make money from licensing your tracks.

I would suggest watching different types of shows to get more acquainted with what each genre of show is using so you can build a diverse catalog of tracks. Surely you might specialize in one style or genre of music but in order to make the most money you can from music licensing you need to be able to record, and record at the highest quality in all styles and genres of music. A good collection has more potential in getting accepted in a music library or signed by a music licensing.

Build your catalog as much and as fast as you can. In addition to watching and studying all the TV shows what you need to do next is record as much quality music as you can. You should eat, drink, sleep music!
