“Temp Tracks”

by Sebastian Samuels

Clients love to use known tracks temporarily in their projects thinking they can afford to license it for the final projects. This is known as a temp track. Often times though they can’t afford it so they have to scramble around and find something that sounds like what they are trying to replace and often times they have ‘temp track love” and nothing works as good as what they are using temporarily.

It’s a good idea to create tracks that are similar to other recordings. Just remember that you don’t want to copy a track or make it sound so similar that you cross the line and the remake is considered a cover or a copy. But most of the time clients to want to get a track that sounds like something well known or recognized as they want their brand associated with a well known recording. Keep in mind to make your recordings longer as well as corporate clients do want longer cuts and 30 second and 60 second cuts usually don’t work for them. Longer pieces work better for them and over 2 minutes is a good idea often and 3+ minutes is perfect for corporate videos and animations.
